A.I.
Ever increasingly, the lines between what is real and what is becoming a form of augmented reality are becoming blurred. Though realistic in its indexical nature, photography, particularly portraiture has always been an abstraction. Social media has forced us to question the authenticity of persona like never before; “People” who appear real may only be some form of artificial intelligence. Known in the technical community as 'bots', this software continues to blur the distinction between what is organic and what is manufactured. These bots exist within a programming language that is both flawed, and as rift with imperfections as the models they attempt to simulate. As the 21st century ushers in a new era of intelligent simulacrum designed in our own image, we will further be confronted with the inevitable questions; what is real and what is natural? And at what point will these distinctions no longer matter?
